Spirit Cycling Jerseys abroad

This week being the classics week in the heartland of northern Europe will see plenty of riders and supporters from various nations. Experiencing the thrills and spills, guaranteed, frites and beer is something not to be missed. This Friday it really kicks off with E3 Harelbeke.

Spirit jerseys will be represented all week long with the Recovery Riders going for a blast on Belgian and French roads. Lucky lucky them.

E3 Harelbeke 2013: The Big Preview

By Richard Abraham and Nigel Wynn

Mur de Grammont, E3 Prijs Vlaanderen-Harelbeke 2012Wednesday’s dark and drenched Dwars Door Vlaanderen heralded the start of this year’s Flemish Classics, which continue apace with this Friday’s E3-Harelbeke.

The traditional appetiser for the Tour of Flanders, the race formerly known as E3-Prijs Vlaanderen contains fifteen ‘bergs,’ many of which are used in next weekend’s Monument including the Paterberg and Oude Kwaremont. History tells us that riders that place highly at E3 will go on to make the mix at the ‘Ronde’ next weekend.

The race will be the first real test for defending champ Tom Boonen and his troublesome elbow. After pulling out of Milan-San Remo last weekend, time is fast running out for the Belgian superstar to recapture his scintillating form that saw him win a record fourth E3 last year.

He’ll have to beat the in-form Peter Sagan and Fabian Cancellara, but after they threw away their chances in San Remo by looking at beating each other rather than the rest of the opposition, could an outsider stand a good chance on Friday?
